Embankment and Culvert Repairs

Cape Cod Canal
Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Watermark was awarded a contract to complete repairs to the drainage system and rip rap embankment slopes of the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne and Sagamore, MA.  This project included repairs to several drainage culverts entering the canal from drainage areas on both sides of the canal.  The purpose of the project was to repair a number of areas where erosion had occurred over time.

culvert-repairs1The project required a significant effort to manage the logistics for the delivery of a large quantity of 6-inch to 12-inch rip rap and other fill materials necessary to complete the repairs.  Access to the work areas was obtained along the one lane canal roadways.  Watermark had to ensure that these roadways remained active for public use during the completion of the work.  Staging areas were set-up in strategic locations to allow the work to proceed efficiently using only one lane and limited areas to turn the off-road dump vehicles around.

culvert-repairs2Construction activities included work access/logistical planning, submittals, scheduling of work, and performing quality control and site safety supervision for all aspects of construction.  As part of the construction services, Watermark provided technical assistance to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District (CENAE) for project revisions and modifications based on changing conditions in the field.
