Mental Health Clinic Addition

Hanscom Air Force Base
Bedford, Massachusetts

Watermark was awarded a Design-Build contract for a Mental Health Clinic Addition to the existing Health Clinic, Building 1900 at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts.  The footprint of the addition was constrained by the building lines of the existing building.

airforce-baseWatermark held a concept design charrette and prepared the Concept, Pre-Final, and Final submittals which included architectural renderings.  Watermark utilized in-house architects and civil engineers for the project.

The new addition has a covered entrance separate and independent from the Building 1900 entrance.  The entrance is readily identifiable and of an appropriate scale for the facility.  A vestibule at the new entrance features a glazed storefront entry and a full size recessed entry mat.  Patient accessibility to the new addition is facilitated by a reconfigured pedestrian access from the existing parking lot.  The existing road in front of the new addition was removed because of anti-terrorism/force protection requirements.  An internal connection back to Building 1900 was provided.

Walls around all offices, Group Therapy, and Staff Lounge extend from the floor to structural deck above and were constructed to the appropriate sound transmission coefficient rating per the Unified Facilities Criteria requirements.

Location of wall mounted electrical outlets, light switches, and thermostats were coordinated with the planning of any furniture and equipment layouts so as not to obstruct access to these components.

The project was registered with the U.S. Green Building Council LEED Building Rating System for New Construction, Version 2.2.  The facility was designed and constructed in conformance with obtaining a rating of LEED Silver as self-certified by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
