Remediation of Contaminated Soils

Baker’s Island Salem, Massachusetts Watermark completed remediation of lead-impacted soil and a lead-based paint abatement project at the historic Baker’s Island Light on Baker’s Island, Salem, Massachusetts.  Work was completed on behalf of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to address environmental impacts to soil associated with the weathering of lead-based paint on the lighthouse, keeper’s dwellings, and other USCG structures occupying approximately 10 acres on the north side of the island. Facility Deconstruction and Restoration

Ipswich Antenna Test Facility Ipswich, Massachusetts Watermark was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District (CENAE) to perform the planning, execution, and closure reporting for the deconstruction and restoration of the Ipswich Antenna Test Facility located in Ipswich, Massachusetts.  The work included the demolition of 10 buildings encompassing over 25,000 square feet, located throughout the 65 acre property including the deconstruction of a three-story reinforced concrete antenna test facility that contained offices, classrooms, laboratories, freight elevator, and testing facilities.  Work  also included the relocation of an emergency generator and roof-top chiller; decommissioning, demolition, and…

Pavement and Drainage System Design

Veterans Affairs Medical Center Providence, Rhode Island Watermark was awarded a contract for a facility wide pavement and drainage system design at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Providence, RI. Watermark designed facility-wide pavement repairs which included cold milling or complete replacement of pavement, curb replacement, parking lot re-design and drainage structure repairs. Storage Tank Repairs Design

Veterans Affairs Medical Center Brockton, Massachusetts Watermark prepared design documents for repairing and upgrading a 300,000-gallon elevated water storage tank.  The design efforts include the following features:  removal and replacement of interior and exterior coating system; provision for containment and environmental protection system; removal and replacement of tank appurtenances such as ladders, guards, gates, railings, and manways; upgrade tank valves and alarms; and lightning protection and obstruction lights.  Watermark prepared Design submissions (architectural, civil, electrical, structural, and mechanical engineering disciplines), coordinated independent technical reviews, and participated in design review meetings.

Trolley Bridge Rehabilitation

Lowell, Massachusetts Watermark was awarded a contract by the National Park Service to rehabilitate a trolley bridge and a section of the trolley’s railroad track located in downtown Lowell, MA.  The work included the demolition of an existing wooden bridge over a canal, the rehabilitation of structural supports and the reconstruction of the wood decking and railings. Roof Replacement Design

U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center Natick, Massachusetts Watermark prepared design documents for the replacement of the existing, single-ply ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) roofing system.  Work involved preparing an Alternatives Analysis Design Study which identified and evaluated 5 roofing system types suitable for installation on the building.  The Design Study recommended a white thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roofing system for installation.  The roof, covering approximately 52,000 SF of area, had significant complexity due to the 94 roof penetrations including curb and equipment mounting.  Based on the results of the Design Study, Watermark prepared 65%, 100%, and Final Design submissions (architectural, structural,…

Design/Build Parking Garage RFP

Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts Watermark prepared a design/build RFP for a new parking garage adjacent to the existing parking garage in what was a surface parking lot at the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System in Jamaica Plain.  The work also included modifications to the existing parking garage and associated site improvements.  The project priority was to maximize the number of parking spaces. FUDS Site Restoration

Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, Charlestown, Rhode Island Watermark provided project planning, remedial action construction and site restoration services, closure reporting, and development of a long-term monitoring plan as part of remedial actions at this Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS). The planning component of this remediation project included substantial coordination and negotiations with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) culminating in an Alternative Method I Cleanup Goal for Site soils which reduced the excavation footprint by more than 40%.
